Our school is a public primary school (6 – 14yrs) with approximately 560 students (including a Slovakian minority) and 40 teachers. The school is in the vicinity of Osijek, the fourth largest city in Croatia. The city is the economic and cultural centre of the eastern Croatian region of Slavonia, as well as the administrative centre of Osijek-Baranja County.
We offer a broad range of subjects and are also involved in many different activities, and always organise special theme days, or integrated days in our school such as Teachers’ day and World Bread Day to raise funds that are used for the school’s needs. We also commemorate the International day of the gifted during which gifted pupils give interesting and fun lectures in different subjects.
Our students are involved in many extra curricular activities like playing instruments, dancing, singing in a choir, writing, and sports. We participate in sports and knowledge competitions, which the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (Croatia) organise.
Elementary School Višnjevac has been recently renovated and is sufficiently technically equipped. Most teachers have expressed their desire to take part in the project so as to learn something new and to improve their work. The school is firmly based in the community and has an excellent partnership with parents.
We would like to improve and increase the mobility of our students and teachers. To introduce a European dimension in teacher education would also be one of the key aims of this project.
This project would help us develop international cooperation between schools, meet the needs of the minorities, their culture, lifestyle and customs, develop mutual understanding and acceptance of people with different thoughts and origin. Pupils and staff would become better integrated in European Union.
